Connecting
Join the gauge’s Wi-Fi, can2gauge-XXXX (the last four characters of its address). There’s no password until you set one on the Settings tab, so set one. Then open http://192.168.1.1 or http://c2g.local. Changes save as you make them.
Some Android phones don’t look up .local names while they’re also on mobile data. Use 192.168.1.1 there.
The interface opens in Basic. Each card shows the settings most people change, with the rest behind More Options; the (i) on a card’s title explains it. The Advanced switch opens every card fully and shows the tool tabs.
Using the glass
| Do this | To |
|---|---|
| Swipe left or right | Change page, or step through a menu or mode screen |
| Hold for 2 s, or swipe up or down | Open the menu; hold again to go back |
| Tap a menu item | Open its live screen |
| Tap an alert | Acknowledge a latched alert |
| Swipe the Haldex screen | Change the OpenHaldex mode |
The menu goes back to the page by itself after 10 seconds untouched. The supplied glass may have no touch layer; everything the glass does can also be done from the web UI.
Pages
The Gauges tab lists your pages, up to eight, one line each. Tap a line to open it and set the style, the source, the value and the label. Picking a value fills in a sensible range and decimals. More Options holds min, max, redline, decimals and the sprite. Move Up and Move Down set the swipe order. The glass rebuilds as you change things.
Quad and Custom pages have three more slots, each its own value from any source.
Sources
- CAN: pick the car’s profile (VAG PQ, MQB, MLB, OBD-II, MaxxECU or listen only) on the CAN tab, or load a DBC. The tab ranks every DBC against the IDs on the bus; pick the top match. Turn on OBD-II over CAN to fill in values the car’s own frames don’t carry.
- K-line: pick the module and its blocks, or type part of a value’s name in Find… to jump to its block. The gauge picks the VCDS label file by part number; where several fit, choose one.
- ME7: upload the
.ecufrom ME7Info and tick the variables to log. Pick Normal or Fast on the K-line tab. - ECU over Wi-Fi: with a usb2ip on the ECU, choose ECU over WiFi as a page’s source and pick any channel.
- ADC: an adc2can’s sensors appear under their own names, already scaled.
Pairing an OBD dongle
- Plug the adapter inIgnition on. It must be Bluetooth LE or Wi-Fi; see the adapter list.
- ScanOn the Bluetooth OBD tab, press Scan and pick the adapter. A Wi-Fi adapter is joined from the same tab.
- Check itThe tab shows the adapter, the protocol, the VIN and the requests per second. Bench tests show what a new adapter can do.
Once paired, the gauge connects by itself at power-up, during the boot logo.
OpenHaldex
Over CAN it works as soon as both are on the same bus. Over Wi-Fi, turn on Gauges over WiFi on the OpenHaldex (V9 or later) and listen on the gauge’s Haldex tab. To change settings or run Learn from the gauge, enter the OpenHaldex’s Wi-Fi password on the Haldex tab and allow gauges to change settings on the OpenHaldex.
Triggers and output
Each of the eight triggers has a value, above or below, a threshold, hysteresis, a hold time and a latch. Picking a value suggests a threshold (its redline, or three quarters of its usual range). Set the action to an alert, the output, or both.
On the Output card, choose high-side or low-side to match the wiring, then Off, On or Auto (triggers). The dot is green while on, red while off, and flashes orange if the driver has shut it down for a short or overheating.
Display, themes and units
Settings > Display holds brightness and night brightness, what dims it, the swipe animation, the boot fade, the long-press time, Analog or Digital feel, and screen rotation. The theme picker groups the 71 themes by make with a live preview.
Units: Metric, Imperial, or Custom per quantity (speed, boost, other pressures, temperature, mixture, distance). Changing a unit converts every page’s range and redline with it.
Logging and service
On the Log tab, choose Active Gauges (your pages) or up to 16 values, set the rate (1–50 a second), and press Start. The graphs draw on your phone; Download CSV saves the run.
On the Service tab, pick a module and Read Faults or Clear Faults. Basic settings such as throttle-body adaptation (group 060 / 098) need the engine off and the ignition on.
Updating
From the OTA tab: Update from GitHub fetches the latest release and installs the web UI then the firmware, or Update from Files takes littlefs.bin then firmware.bin. Your settings are kept. A new firmware must confirm itself within 60 s or the gauge rolls back.
On a chain, update one gauge, wait a minute, then press Update Other Gauges on its Daisy Chain tab. Park the car first.
